'ave a butchers

2023

installation and video

I have developed a practice that centres around reclaiming and unlearning through the antithesis of death and feminine beauty. This mainly revolves around my fascination with meat and the surprising beauty I find within it. Using varying mediums, I explore issues regarding gaze, objectification and hierarchy. Through self-objectification and exploring linguistic overlaps surrounding animals and women, 'Ave a Butchers questions power dynamics and passive representations of the body. Situated in the intersection between femininity and the question of the animal, my practice aims to explore why it is I am so hung up on meat.
